Margherita+Hack Hindi was significant because she made the decision to pursue her passion for astronomy, and in 1964 she joined the University of Trieste as a full-time astronomy professor, where she remained until she retired in 1998.She published academic science books and articles for prominent worldwide astronomy periodicals while on leave.

She started the bimonthly journal "L'Astronomia" (The Astronomy) in 1978, and later, she co-edited the scientific journal "Le Stelle" with Corrado Lamberti (The Stars).

From 1964 to 1 November 1992, she served as a full professor of astronomy at the University of Trieste until being demoted due to seniority.
She was the first Italian woman to run the Trieste Astronomical Observatory, making it famous around the world from 1964 to 1987.

Margherita Hack, a member of the most esteemed physics and astronomy organizations, served as the department's director at the University of Trieste from 1985 to 1991 and from 1994 to 1997.
She belonged to the National Academy of Linguistics (national member in the class of mathematical physics and natural sciences; second category: astronomy, geodesic, geophysics and applications; section A: astronomy and applications).
